Alexander Lightbody, the Artist
Here are three other Alexander Lightbody paintings :
This boat was painted in 1903
Note the unusual signature in the corner. He signed himself as AL (there may be another inital there as well ?) It is unfortunately this that will probably make any of his paintings difficult to track down. Some may well still exist in the Hamilton, Wishaw, Lanark areas if not in Glasgow itself.
The following painting of a tree shows how wonderfully he painted trees, in an abstract way that show the true nature of the tree, as in the Silver Birch tree to the left of this painting.
Here
is a framed picture of a waterfall, perhaps The Falls of Clyde.
This closer detail of the picture shows up the wonderful command of colours and
flowing movements. The reflection in the water has been captured perfectly at
the bottom right of the picture. The light on the hill above with the loan tree
is also beautifully captured. The light of a sunny day and the shade of the
waterfall.
If anyone can send me digital pictures of any more of Alexander Lightbody's paintings or knows of any more, then please contact me and we can try to continue to piece together some history of Alexander Lightbody, the artist.
