"Pets Deserve a Portrait"
As an animal lover, I just love doing Pet Portraits and from the comments I receive from happy customers, I know that all of you love your animals and love the pet portraits I do of them. For example, : "Hi, The picture is fantastic. You have got her perfectly. So thank you very much its beautiful.", Maureen, Glasgow.
Pet portraits can be completed in various artistic media, including pastel pencils, watercolour or acrylic. It all depends on what effect you would like to achieve in your picture. Some examples of the different media are displayed on this page.
The above pictures have been completed in Pastels and Pastel Pencils, which looks great for showing up the fur of an animal's coat and looks particularly good with a strong background colour. The pictures here show a full body picture of a collie, a golden retriever and a cat. The other dog is a fantastic 17 year old dog which was originally a rescue dog. :
The following two pastels are head and shoulders portraits of a West Highland Terrier and a fantastic Gordon Setter.

This pastel of a golden retriever puppy is definitely the cutest commission I have received !
This picture of a horse has been painted in Acrylics, which give an effect rather like that of an oil painting :

And here is a famous racehorse McGregor The Third who has been painted in acrylics. He is one of my favourite horses, having been an excellent jump racer and we went to visit him at his training stable's open day in Perthshire :

And here is an acrylic painting of a girl with her pony. This can be a wonderful present for your pony mad children!
These beautiful cats have been painted in watercolour which has a more transparent effect :

Here is a pencil drawing of last year's winner of the dogs' section at Milngavie Week Pet Show. Pencil can give great detail if that is what you are looking for in your painting. This picture is a mixture of good quality coloured pencil and pastel pencil. Isn't he a stunning looking collie ? Some of his relatives are mountain rescue dogs ! :
This head portrait of an alsation (German Shepherd dog) has also been drawn in coloured pencil and is very effective with a black background.

It is also possible to put more than one animal together in the same picture. In this example three dogs were drawn together in pastels. Note the black colour of the labrador shows up particularly well as he was photographed in sunlight which showed the reflection in his coat. Black can be difficult to paint if the animal is not well lit to see as many colours as possible reflecting in the coat. :

and these two cats have been drawn in pencil :

Pet portraits are available starting from as little as £50 (unframed) for an approximately A4 sized picture of your pet. There is a discount if you are ordering separate pictures of two or more pets.
